The making of cigars
« BackStripping
Steaming the bales of tobacco leaves compensates for moisture loss. That is necessary to make the leaves fit for processing again. Then the largest veins (or stems) are removed from the filler. That is done in the stripping machine, where large hammers pound the leaves through a sieve. These threshed leaves are then blended.
Filler and binder
The bunchmaker rolls the binder around the filler. The machines can make up to 1,200 bunches (or 2,400 cigars) a minute. Each bunch is checked for weight, size, diameter and density.
Wrapper
During the last stage of the production process, a machine wraps the valuable wrapper leaf around the bunch. Now the cigar is finished.
Hand rolled
When making hand rolled cigar all the above mentioned machine methods are all done by hand by specialized personnel.
Packing
Cigars wrapped in polypropylene, ringed or not ringed, packed in screw top tubes, humidors or metal, wooden or brand boxes: this is all part of postproduction and custom-made for the customer and is in line with legal regulations.
Every day, a large number of shipments leave for some of the more than 100 countries where the consumers can enjoy their favourite cigar from Scandinavian Tobacco Group, made according to the highest quality standards.
