The history of Scandinavian Tobacco Group
« BackIn 2000, ST acquired the cigar activities of British American Tobacco-owned Imperial Tobacco in Canada, including the brands Colts and Old Port.
In 2000, ST acquired the sales company Loretta Cigars in England.
In 2001, the activities of Nobel Cigars in Århus, Denmark, were de-merged into a separate company, Nobel Cigars Production.
In 2002, the Swedish snus manufacturer in Malmö, Fiedler & Lundgren, was established.
In 2003, ST acquired the sales company Stanwell Vertriebs-Gesellschaft in Bremen, Germany, from British American Tobacco. The company was re-named Stanwell Nobel.
In 2004, Henri Wintermans Cigars celebrated its 100th anniversairy.
In 2005, OTC took over British American Tobacco’s contract production of pipe tobacco in Northern Ireland, including brands such as Erinmore and Dunhill, making it the leading pipe tobacco manufacturer worldwide.
In 2007, ST took over the premium cigar business CAO International, in Nashville, USA.
In 2007, ST took over the cigar activities of British American Tobacco’s Tabacofina Vander-Elst, including the brands Mercator and Don Pablo, making it the largest cigar manufacturer in Europe and no. 3 at world level.
In 2007, OTC acquired the pipe tobacco brands Erinmore and Clan from British American Tobacco.
In 2008, ST sold its cigarette company House of Prince, the snus company Fiedler & Lundgren in Sweden and J.L. Tiedemanns Tobaksfabrik in Norway to British American Tobacco. At the same time, ST acquired the remaining 50% of Orlik Tobacco Company, making it a wholly-owned subsidiary of ST.
In 2008, the ST head office relocated to Sydmarken, in Søborg, Denmark.
In 2008, Skandinavisk Tobakskompagni changed its name to Scandinavian Tobacco Group.
In 2008, STG acquired two cigar factories in Danli, Honduras and Esteli, Nicaragua, respectively.
In 2009, STG acquired the Norwegian RYO brand Tiedemanns (among others) from British American Tobacco.
