Skandinavisk Tobakskompagni takes a new name

At an extraordinary general meeting of the Danish Skandinavisk Tobakskompagni A/S on Monday 15 December the decision was made to change the Company’s name to Scandinavian Tobacco Group A/S.

The name change will become effective immediately. Scandinavian Tobacco Group is the parent company for a number of subsidiary companies in several countries and for most of them the name change will continually take effect during the next six months.

In connection with the name change a new logo will be presented, which should be seen as a larger part of a reorganization of the Company. This is why Scandinavian Tobacco Group will in future be one company with a joint identity – no matter where in the world the Company or products are represented.

The Company’s history covers more than 200 years. Scandinavian Tobacco was founded in 1961 – at which time three Danish tobacco companies were merged – two via the parent company Skandinavisk Holding who today own Scandinavian Tobacco Group A/S: Chr. Augustinus Fabrikker (established in 1750) and C.W. Obel (established in 1787).

Scandinavian Tobacco Group is a global company with Danish Headquarters and the Group employs a staff of approx. 9,500. Scandinavian Tobacco Group A/S is the parent company for a number of Danish and foreign-owned subsidiaries in the areas of production and sales of tobacco products as well as wholesale sales and retail sales of staple goods. Scandinavian Tobacco Group is the world’s largest player in the area of pipe tobacco as well as Europe’s largest – and the world’s third largest – as regards cigars.

The name change is of no significance to the staple goods firm Dagrofa or Tivoli, in which Scandinavian Tobacco Group has a considerable amount of shareholdings.
